  • No Selling of Personal Data: We never sell, rent, or trade your personal data, screen recordings, or audio files to third parties or data brokers.
  • Limited Use Compliance: The use of data collected via the Demoly Chrome Extension is strictly limited to delivering screen recording, editing, transcription, and walkthrough features.
  • No Advertising or Tracking: We do not use your recordings or Chrome extension data for personalized advertising, credit scoring, or data broker profiling.

1. Introduction

Demoly ("we," "our," or "us") operates the website https://demoly.dev, the web platform at https://app.demoly.dev, and the Demoly Chrome Browser Extension ("Extension").

Demoly is built to capture, edit, transcribe, index, and share AI-searchable web demos, screen walkthroughs, and instant bug reports. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect information when you use our web platform and Chrome Extension.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information necessary to provide screen recording, video hosting, AI transcription, and interactive walkthrough functionality:

A. Account & Identity Data

When you register an account on app.demoly.dev, we collect your email address, name, password hash, and authentication credentials.

B. Screen Video, Audio & Walkthrough Recordings

When you initiate a recording via the Demoly Chrome Extension or web app, Demoly captures screen video frames, tab audio, and microphone narration explicitly selected by you. Recording only occurs after explicit user action (e.g., clicking "Start Recording").

C. AI Transcripts, Element Pinpointing & Search Data

Audio streams from your recordings are processed into text transcripts using AI speech-to-text engines to enable interactive timestamp navigation and instant AI search across video walkthroughs. When you leave a pinned comment, the associated element metadata (e.g., DOM selector, timestamp, tab title) is saved to attach the comment to the exact moment.

D. Chrome Extension Permissions & Technical Usage

The Demoly Chrome Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, used strictly for core functionality:

  • activeTab & tabs: Required to capture the target web tab, display recording controls, and capture page titles/URLs for walkthrough metadata.
  • scripting: Required to render the floating recording control toolbar, blur/redaction overlays, and pinpointing widgets directly on the web page.
  • offscreen: Required under Chrome Manifest V3 to encode audio and video streams efficiently in the background without UI lag.
  • storage: Required to save local user preferences, active recording state, and session tokens locally in Chrome storage.
  • <all_urls> host permission: Required so you can record web walkthroughs and capture pinpoint element comments across any website or internal web application you navigate to during a recording session.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information solely to provide, maintain, and improve the Demoly walkthrough platform, including:

  • Processing, encoding, hosting, and streaming screen video recordings and web demos.
  • Generating automated speech-to-text transcripts and powering AI-assisted keyword search within your video walkthroughs.
  • Enabling editing, permanent canvas redaction, timeline trimming, and element-pinned commenting.
  • Authenticating user access and managing shareable walkthrough links created by users.
  • Providing customer support and debugging technical issues.

4. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Compliance

Demoly complies strictly with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements:

  • Single Purpose: The use of information received from Chrome APIs is restricted solely to providing and enhancing Demoly's core user-facing features: recording web walkthroughs, editing video, generating searchable transcripts, and sharing demo links.
  • No Data Sale: Demoly does NOT sell, trade, license, or transfer personal data or Chrome API user data to third parties, data brokers, or advertising networks under any circumstances.
  • No Advertising: User data collected via the Chrome Extension is NEVER used or transferred for personalized, targeted, or behavioral advertising.
  • No Credit Scoring or Surveillance: User data is NEVER used or transferred for credit evaluation, lending decisions, or background surveillance.
  • Human Inspection Restrictions: No human reads your recordings or data unless you explicitly request customer support, report a bug, or give explicit permission, or as legally required for security/compliance.

5. Data Sharing & Third-Party Service Providers

We only share data with trusted third-party service infrastructure providers essential to operating Demoly:

  • Cloud Infrastructure & Storage: Secure cloud hosting services for video asset storage and database management.
  • AI Speech Processing: Secure AI speech-to-text processing APIs used exclusively to convert recorded video audio into searchable text transcripts.

All service providers are bound by strict confidentiality and data protection agreements enforcing security standards matching this policy.

6. Data Security & Encryption

Security is core to Demoly. We implement robust technical and organizational measures to safeguard your information:

  • In-Transit Encryption: All data transmitted between your browser, the Chrome Extension, and Demoly servers is encrypted using standard TLS 1.2+ (HTTPS/WSS).
  • At-Rest Encryption: Video recordings, database records, and server backups are encrypted at rest using industry-standard AES-256 encryption.
  • Frame-Layer Redaction: When you use Demoly's redaction tools, sensitive video regions are permanently removed at the video frame layer, ensuring redacted content cannot be recovered from exported video streams.

7. Data Retention & User Control Rights

You retain complete control over your data:

  • Recording Deletion: You can delete any recording at any time from your Demoly dashboard. Upon deletion, the video file, transcript, and associated comments are permanently purged from our active storage.
  • Account Deletion: You may request complete account deletion at any time by contacting support or using account settings on app.demoly.dev. Account deletion permanently removes all associated user data and video assets.

8. Children's Privacy

Demoly is intended for workplace, agency, and professional team collaboration. Demoly does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in certain jurisdictions). If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child without parental consent, we will promptly delete that information.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product enhancements or regulatory updates. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and posting the revised policy on https://demoly.dev/privacy.
